Product Peels

Many of these exfoliating methods are referred to as a “Peel,” as they peel away dulling debris and dead skin to reveal  smoother, supple, even skin.

Mechanical/Abrasive Peel Products utilize some form of “scrubbing” agent in their formulations, such as Almond Meal, Magnesium Crystals, Bamboo Beads, or salts. These products work very well as daily use “power cleansing” agents for all but the most delicate skins. Using these types of products on their own or blended with a cleanser in the shower allow a quick solution for keeping the skin clear and decongested.

Enzyme Peels typically use fruit or plant enzymes (Papaya, Pumpkin, Pineapple, Bacillus Ferment) to gently yet thoroughly digest the dead skin cells that cling to the surface and cause dull, patchy looking skin. Enzyme peels are particularly suited to delicate, sensitive skins as they cannot “over do” the amount of exfoliation done in one application. Enzymes are self timing and can only work on skin cells that are completely ready to shed off. These types of products are usually applied to the skin and left on for 3 to 5 minutes and then rinsed or rubbed off. Using Enzyme Peels several times a week at home keeps skin smooth and soft.

Hydroxy Acids come from a variety of sources in Nature as well as from the lab. They are derived from milk, fruits, trees, and rice just to name a few natural sources. Each of the Acids exfoliates but they also have individual characteristics. For instance, Lactic Acid is very hydrating and it works wonderfully at lightening hyper-pigmentation. Salicylic Acid is particularly good at treating acne and helping the other acids be more effective. Citric Acid is a multi-purpose exfoliator as it it anti-oxidant and anti-aging in addition to its smoothing, regenerating capabilities. Hydroxy Acids dissolve the “glue” the holds the skin cells to the surface of your epidermis. They can also dissolve the actual skin cells if the acids are in a high enough concentration or paired with another exfoliating agent. These types of peeling products are fantastic at evening skin tone and color, as well as encouraging skin regeneration.

Vitamin Peels are most know for their anti-aging benefits. Vitamin A encourages new cells to be born and to be brought forth more quickly than your skin would do on its own. This action makes it the most potent option for mature, sun damaged, or rough textured skins for home care results and professional peels as well. Though Retinol is one of the most common known Vitamin Exfoliants on the market, many products claim to use Vitamin A, yet very few have an appropriate amount or the form that skin can readily use and convert for regeneration and exfoliation.

Each of the above listed Peel Products may be used in the professional setting in conjunction with machines or technology. The more educated and professional your Skin Therapist is, the better the results you may expect from your peeling service. Being well informed is always the best option where your skin is concerned.
